History

Tampa Bay Steel Corp. is the result of the life long goal and the earnest prayers of Buck and Eleanor McInnis. The company was founded by them in 1980 and was incorporated in Hillsborough County, Florida. TBSC has enjoyed the continual blessing of success since its inception. This has always seemed to flow naturally from practicing Christian principles, stressing service to customers and working hard.

The original office was a 13’ x 13’ den in the McInnis home equipped with a card table, filing cabinet, and telephone. Soon the facility was moved to Sabal Industrial Park. Warehouse space consisted of 10,000 square feet of inside warehouse storage, two acres of outside storage, and a small trailer housing the office. In the beginning, there were five employees.

On March 31, 1983, Tampa Bay Steel Corporation purchased the Tampa Service Center from Florida Steel Corporation. At that time, the two service centers merged and began to enjoy even greater success. The company now has 180,000 square feet of warehouse space, 4,000 square feet of office, eight acres of outside storage and a rail siding.

As a result of an acquisition in September 1996, we began stocking non-ferrous products, broadening the scope of our capabilities for customers.

In January 2001, Tampa Bay Steel opened the Metals Outlet to meet additional needs of the marketplace. It offers all of our customers a wide selection of drops and stock for their smallest orders, with no minimum. Limited processing is also available through this facility.
